GWR Weekend Upgrades

Hi all,

This is a straightforward question, if I purchase a GWR first class weekend upgrade on the train does this entitle me access to the first class lounges at PAD/CDF?

Thank you!

Thanks for posing that question, GWR 158.

I have looked at the GWR website, but it is remarkably light on detail regarding eligibility to use the facility.

However, I would argue that, if you have bought an upgrade to first class, you then become a first class ticket holder - so you are entitled to use GWR's first class lounges.

Unless anyone can show me some small print in their terms and conditions which refutes that?

CfN.

Nothing on the Weekend First webpage either - BUT as you can only buy them on the train, it would only be usable in the arrival lounge on each journey. Promise to buy probably wouldn't work...

I think you can buy weekend first for travel the following day,but no train station booking office will sell you a weekend first on the day.

The reason is that the booking offices would not know how many wanted to buy the weekend up grade on the train.

I stand to be corrected but we may be at cross purposes.

As I understand it you can only buy a weekend first upgrade on board, subject to the discretion of the train manager based on the number of seats available.

You can buy a first class upgrade for an existing walk-up standard class ticket at any time prior to travel from a booking office.

Which is the same reason that means your first paragraph is incorrect - because no one knows the day before whether there will be any empty 1st seats on any particular service.
